Triumph for Lads and Girls in Pool Competitions

Young people from the club won three of the Greater Manchester Federation Pool Competitions this week. Our senior lads were successful in the under 19 final where we had the winner Adam Williams and runner up Tapiwanashe Jaricha. Last night we added to this success with Montel Harper winning the Girls under 12 Pool Final. Ashley Carr then went on to win the under 16 trophy.

A Bishop in the Boxing gym

The Bishop of Manchester the Rt Rev Nigel McCullock in the boxing gym last week photographed by Rev. Rachel Ross. The Bishop said it was his first time on a punch bag, a claim hard to deny! The visit was part of the bishop’s pilgrimage to visit every church and parish in The Manchester Diocese. His pilgrimage symbol is the baton from the Manchester Commonwealth Games. He called at the club while visiting St Clements Church in Ordsall.

Archie has a date with the Queen, Hazel Blears and Stephen Wright

On Tuesday this week the Queen presented Archie Swift with an MBE for his lifetime of voluntary work at Salford Lads’ Club. Archie and his family travelled to London for the ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Later in the day Archie called at the Palace of Westminster and had tea with Salford MP and chair of the Labour Party Hazel Blears. Smiths photographer Stephen Wright offered to record the occasion for Archie and we are delighted to be able to show the picture here.
