Local Corner shop raises £215 for SLC

The families from Lyndsey’s Store, the corner shop opposite the club, decided to help our fundraising appeal recently. They asked their customers to help, by putting their loose change in a sweet jar on the shop counter. The result, is that after a couple of months, local people have raised £215 towards our appeal. Fantastic, its great to know our support comes from near and far. Picture shows Sandra , Ruby and Lyndsey from the store.

Archie and pals win top award

The Nationwide Building Society Community & Heritage Volunteers of the Year Awards 2008 Archie Swift MBE and the team of 14 senior volunteers from SLC have won the top award as Heritage Volunteers of the Year for the North West. They will go forward to the national final in London in November. Club member, 15 year old Nial Armsden, also won a Junior Heritage Volunteer of the Year Award for the North West.

Our new volunteers are off their trolleys!

A community initiative set up by our local Tesco Express store at Salford Quays has helped the club get in shape for the new season. Local store manager Nigel Phillips took up the challenge of local councillor and club volunteer Ray Mashiter to get out into the local community Nigel organised a team of managers from Tesco stores around greater Manchester to spend the day painting, cleaning and of course posing outside our famous doorway.
