David Woods former chairman of SLC

David Woods (left) and Major Jeremy Groves at the SLC camp in 1990. David Woods who was chairman of the club from 1987- 2002 died last week. He worked closely with the late president Major Jeremy Groves during the same period.  David was associated with charitable work for young people across the region and he was also chairman of the Greater Manchester Federation of Clubs for Young People.  David was the managing director of Fearnly Construction a Salford building company.

US punks at Salford Lads’ Club

Titus Andronicus held the concert hall stage last night in front of an appreciative crowd. The indie punk outfit from New Jersey brought the place to life with a great 70 minute set. The gig was organised by Islington Mill.

Bill Drummond and Two Tribes in the boxing ring

It's not often 34 boxers look tense and edgy in a boxing gym, but they were last night when conceptual artist and musician Bill Drummond asked them to practise a weird range of chants. It was all part of Bill’s 4 year project called The 17. Boxers from Salford Lads' Club and Irlam Boxing Academy came out of their corners and comfort zone’s for one of their toughest tests.  It was all over in an hour with honours just about even despite the weight and size advantage of the SLC boxers. ...
