Our Archive

The dedicated Club Archive room brings together all the membership records, photographs, annual reports and newsletters dating back to 1903 and they are now able to be seen by visitors.

With nearly all of the other “lads clubs” across the country now gone, and with them the loss of their entire history, Salford Lads Club has retained a unique archive of photos, records, film reels and memorabilia since 1903. This collection documents not only the clubs activities, but the changing and transient lives of teenagers growing up in Salford from Edwardian times to today.

We often get queries from people tracing their family links to the club – feel free to contact us if you are looking for a specific person.

We have used the archive to inspire local young people creating arts and heritage projects; these include “The Ghost Camp” which won an award in 2006, “From Baden Powell to Morrissey”, “Swedish Drill”, “The Quaker Girl Bazaar”, “Street of 1000 Children”, “Tales from Camp” and “The Salford Lads Club Netball Party”.

The Archive room was created with a grant from the Zochonis Charitable Trust who support our work with young people.
