General Baden Powell officially opened Salford Lads Club exactly 105 years ago this week and the club are holding a special open day on Sunday Ist February to mark the occasion.
We also have a special guest Andrew Davies author of “ The Gangs of Manchester” who will give an informal talk about the “scuttling gangs” of Salford and Manchester and the origins of the Lads’ Club movement.
The open day will also include a chance to look round the new boxing suite and see plans for a proposed new archive room.
On Saturday 15th October we will have a special open day, creating a giant drawing in the gym. This is one of the events in the Big Draw project that is taking place all over the country. We want to make a drawing of the area around the club including Coronation Street. The event is supported by Ordsall Community Arts and The New Barracks Tenants Management Co-operative.
The Other Smiths are playing a gig at The Bury Met on Saturday night and they will be calling in to pose outside the entrance, to give our event a bit of class!
