John Thomson, Pete from Cold Feet, and Chris Gascoyne, Pete from Coronation Street were on the concert hall stage last night telling some fascinating stories, with some of the audience taking photos on their phones. Looking back in our archives to 1904 the “interesting talk” was given by Baden Powell at the official opening of the club, and reported in drawings for “The Daily Dispatch” Here is our drawing of John and Chris, in the style of that original report.
We have another of our special fundraising evenings in the concert hall on Saturday February 23rd with actors John Thomson & Chris Gascoyne.
Tickets are £12 each online or £15 on the door.
Doors and bars will be open from 7pm. The event will start at 8pm.

Last week Salford Lads’ Club featured prominently in a BBC2 ‘Culture Show’ special about The Smiths. Last night we featured in a scene in the final episode of Channel 5’s ‘Shameless’, with Frank Gallagher ranting outside our front door about tourists and mobile phones. Meanwhile, in today’s edition of The Sun newspaper, Stewart Whittingham’s report about Salford as a holiday destination includes a photograph of him outside the club, dressed in shorts and sandals. We were the first place that he visited of course!
No it’s not a dream – the club and Coronation Street star in scenes from the new BBC One drama series called “Survivors”. Episode one is on Sunday. It was filmed here in June and our famous sign was transformed into a call for prayer. See more on http://www.bbc.co.uk/survivors/
