Our project Knockout Drawings from the Boxing Ring has been chosen as one of only 5 award winners from 1312 Big Draw events across the UK.
Sue Grayson Ford, Campaign Director, comments “Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club and Ordsall Community Arts fully demonstrated the Big Draw’s aims of bringing people together, engaging them creatively and supporting active learning – all through drawing. Unique and imaginative methods made this a knockout event and produced surprising images.
Artist Leslie Holmes and Gail Skelly, co-ordinator of Ordsall Community Arts will be presented with £500 for their organisations by leading illustrator and Campaign patron Quentin Blake at a ceremony hosted by the Campaign for Drawing at the British Museum on 4 April 2007. This award is the second recognition in two years for this partnership. Their 2005 Drawing Coronation Street won a Runners-up Award.
We would like to thank
Awards for All and Salford City Council for supporting our event.
Support from Aimhigher Greater Manchester will enable us to take 8 young people to the event in London.
Join us on Saturday 14th October from 12-4pm for an unusual drawing workshop in the boxing ring at Salford Lads’ Club. We will be drawing the fast moving combat sports of Capoeira, Ju-jitsu, Thai and ABA boxing.
Can’t draw? Well we can’t box either, but we know someone who can. We have a Capoeira group led by Danny Henry called Capindiana, Manchester Cobras Kickboxing Club and ABA boxers from Salford Lads’ Club.
All the drawing materials are provided free and we have artists on hand to provide encouragement. So please come along and join the fun.
The Big Draw is part of the national programme of drawing activities taking place all over the UK.
