We had a visit by a group of junior boxers from Eccles Boxing Club tonight to do some sparring with our junior boxers. Its great to make a link with another Boxing Club and we’d like to build on this in the future.

This week the concert hall has been transformed for the recreation of “ The Netball Party” an annual event that took place between 1919 and 1939. By the 1930s netball was the most popular indoor sport at the club with more than 200 boys playing each week. We would like to thank Salford University for helping us make the project happen and to St Josephs RC Primary and Primrose Hill Primary for taking part. Thanks also to volunteers from Talktalk.
The event was featured on ITVs Granada Reports and in the MEN https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/salford-lads-clubs-forgotten-sporting-16028831
The exhibition is open to visitors on Saturday 30th March from 11-2pm (please note resident only parking on street around the club)
Tonight we welcomed a group from Ardoyne Youth Club, Belfast. The group of 15 young people and youth leaders are visiting a number of youth projects in the North West. The group had a tour of the club and then joined our lads in boxing, pool and 5 a side football.
John Thomson, Pete from Cold Feet, and Chris Gascoyne, Pete from Coronation Street were on the concert hall stage last night telling some fascinating stories, with some of the audience taking photos on their phones. Looking back in our archives to 1904 the “interesting talk” was given by Baden Powell at the official opening of the club, and reported in drawings for “The Daily Dispatch” Here is our drawing of John and Chris, in the style of that original report.
We have another of our special fundraising evenings in the concert hall on Saturday February 23rd with actors John Thomson & Chris Gascoyne.
Tickets are £12 each online or £15 on the door.
Doors and bars will be open from 7pm. The event will start at 8pm.

On Sunday we held our first vinyl record fair in the main gym while upstairs in the concert hall Bands FC put on their quirky exhibtion, if bands were football teams…. Today marks 100 years since the end of World War One, on 11 November 1918 and we remember all the club members and volunteers who died. Our WW1 memorial lists the names of 138 club members killed during the conflict. The memorial was errected in 1920 . The clubs weekly newsletter from 15th November 1918 details the news to club members.
On Saturday night Peter Hook and Mani played to a packed house in the concert hall for ” Touching Bass” an in conversation event arranged by Alison Bell. This is the third of these popular fundraising events for the club and attracted music fans from as far afield as the USA and Argentina. The audience were treated to great stories by these 2 Manchester Music legends. They are both Manchester United fans and former United star Brian McClair was in the audience; City’s Paul Lake introduced the event to give a semblance of balance to this red affair!
