Ghost Camp Wins National Award

The Roots and Wings Awards are for 'groundbreaking heritage learning projects with young people' The Ghost Camp involved a radio play, drama workshops and an exhibition based on the club's ill -fated camping holiday of 1940. Archie Awarded MBE

Archie Swift was born in Huddart Street, 50 yards from the club, and joined the club in 1946. He has been a significant figure at the club all his adult life, running football and rugby teams and taking part in boxing and weightlifting. Archie has attended more than 50 annual camp holidays with the club. His passion and knowledge of the club's history have made him a central figure in contributing to our exhibitions and open days. The Smiths is Dead: Iconic Images from the ‘Dirty Old Town’

The exhibition ‘Dirty Old Town’ is set in the Billiards Room and celebrates the significance of the area’s red brick streets. Artist Leslie Holmes has collected together a unique collection of archive photographs and pictures by local residents. A place that inspired ‘Coronation Street’ ‘A taste of Honey’ ‘East is East’ and ‘Dirty Old Town’.
